The Church's One Foundation is a Christian hymn written in the 1860s by Samuel John Stone in response to a schism in the church in South Africa over the historical accuracy of Scripture. The issues at the time inspired Samuel Stone to write a set of hymns based on the Apostles Creed. Twelve hymns explained each section of the creed as a means of conveying a deeper and clearer understanding of this essential doctrinal document. The Church's One Foundation explains the ninth article - "I believe in the Holy Catholic (Universal) church, the communion of the saints." (Information obtained from songsandhymns.org)
